This when the brothers begin to be different. However, David realizes the mistake that he has made and vows never again to do it again. He actually causes his brother to have a seizure and I found that disturbing as well. On page 38, there is a scene with David teasing his brother. He even had a Nazi flag and other posts up on his wall. Although Jean Christophe was not trying to be anti-Semitic, it is disturbing how he found Hitler amazing. He wants to have power over something since his epilepsy makes him weak. Jean Christophe wants to feel like he is in total control.

On the flip side, his brother loves Hitler. Previously, David tells the reader that Genghis Khan is his favorite historical figure. David also compares his fighting rage to his brother epilepsy. This panel has a lot of fine details in it. There are several images like the one on the bottom of page 19 which depict several people getting stabbed by a bow and arrow. It is a little disturbing how they were so into war at this young age of their life. They would spend their days drawing battle scenes. Towards the beginning of the book, David and his brother were similar. Sometimes his pictures are crowded and filled with too much information for the reader to handle. David’s picture panels depict his emotions and reveal his inner thoughts. In the graphic novel, David explains how his brother’s illness effects his family and himself. Jean-Christophe develops epilepsy early on in his life. explains his experience dealing with his brother’s illness in his novel Epileptic. That is a lot of people and you probably know someone or know of someone who is effected by this. Around 1 in 26 people will have epilepsy. Epilepsy is defined as a disorder in the nervous system that can cause seizures, unusual behavior, and sensations in people.
